Background
The CCSAI strives to empower students and provide an enriched college experience. We strive to act in the best interest of all of our students.
To better understand our students we collect formal data through surveys and focus groups, and informal feedback through information tables, presentations and our suggestion box. These data sets are key to help us better understand our students and how to better support them, but it is not a replacement for lived experiences and first-hand perspectives. Our board members bring a diverse set of understandings and perspectives to the work that we do, but we are not able to represent of all our students. The intent of the advising council is to provide diverse perspectives to the work that we do in supporting the student community at Centennial College through campaigns, services and activities that make a lasting and positive impact.

The Council
We are looking for 3-5 students to participate in our board meeting on a continuing basis to provide unique perspectives on how current issues and planned responses affect our diverse student population.
The council performs an advisory function and members will not hold a vote on the CCSAI Board of Directors. Council members will have full speaking rights at the meeting and are expected to be active participants in board discussions.

The Commitment
Members are expected to attend at least one (1) meeting each month. The meetings will last a maximum of two (2) hours and may require up to an additional one (1) hour of meeting preparation including reading meeting materials.

The Benefits
In recognition of the key role that the council will play in shaping the present and future of the CCSAI, each council member will receive:

  • All necessary Governance and Parliamentary Procedure training
  • Will have the opportunity to complete other specific training and professional development presented to our Board of Directors
  • An honorarium of $1000/semester
  • Priority access to CCSAI events and activities
  • Official certificate and recognition for active participation
  • Verification for your co-curricular record and Leadership Passport

We strive to serve our students the best that we can and we need your unique experience and perspective to help shape our activities, services and events.
