The Board Bulletin – September

Welcome, Centennial Family! We are so excited to begin this new semester with you. Here’s what happened in the first month of the Fall semester.

Cenchella: Sweet Escape

The CCSAI started this academic year by welcoming our students back with the recently hosted Cenchella: Sweet Escape Welcome Party. The event was kicked off by the Cenchella campus tours, which were a great success as approximately 1000 students were in attendance at the welcome party and we were able to provide students with positive experiences and a great time.

We would like to thank all the students who took part in the events, as well as our team who helped in organizing, we could not have done it without you!

Foodbank Expansion at Progress Campus

We are proud to announce that the foodbank expansion at the Progress campus has been completed. We as an organization can now serve our students better with an improved delivery system while providing food hampers to students in need.

You can access our foodbank services at ccsai.ca/food-bank/

Consultation on Strategic Plan 2025-2029

After completing the first draft of our 2025-2029 Strategic plan, we moved forward with consultations by gathering input from students, alumni and the college through the Strategic Planning Engagement Tour (SPET). These sessions were made available with the collaboration of Centennial College with both online and in-person access available. We appreciate everyone who took part in these sessions.

Ontario Student Voices at Cenchella

As a member association in OSV, we invited the organization to Progress campus during the Cenchella campus tours to connect with our students. During the campus visit, OSV communicated with students and got some insight into what the students would like the organization to focus on in the near future.

Truth and Reconciliation Day

In recognition of Truth and Reconciliation Day, the Centre for Faculty Development and Teaching Innovation (CFDTI) hosted a special Orange Shirt Day. The event highlights were:

  • Opening Ceremony led by Liz Akiwenzie, Healer in Residence, Southwest Ontario Aboriginal Health Access Centre.
  • Workshops on Indigenous history, culture, and reconciliation.
  • Indigenous-inspired menu presented by the School of Hospitality and Culinary Arts.
  • Exclusive Orange Shirts designed by Indigenous artist Madison Pascal

We hope that was a day of learning and reflection for everyone.

World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics – Youth Congress

The World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) is an international network of national and regional associations of colleges as well as individual colleges. WFCP provides leadership in delivering workforce education for our global economy and is also a keyway for colleges to link with other key stakeholders in the Skills landscape such as employers, sector skills councils, industry, government, funding agencies etc to help emphasise our position in the Skills ‘ecosystem’.

The WFCP youth congress took place at  Montego Bay, St James, Jamaica, West Indies, from September 22-27 2024 and our CCSAI President Ajane Adams and the Vice-President of Progress Campus Kara Mei Herrera were invited to represent the CCSAI and be a part of success with other global experts and professionals collaborating, sharing insights, and catalysing transformative change in the education landscape.

Club Spotlight

This past month we had our Club Spotlight on the CCSAI Movie Club and the Centennialista Filipino Association respectively. The CCSAI Movie Club provides an opportunity for students to interact, discuss, and bond over their shared passion for films. Lead by Nabeel Al J. and Thelma P., they received last year’s Professionalism Excellence Award.

The Centennialista Filipino Association foster inclusive and vibrant community, passionately dedicated to exploring and celebrating Filipino culture. While the club offers supportive spaces for Filipino students, the door is open to all interested in immersing themselves in the richness of Filipino heritage. Recipients of the Cultural Ambassador Award & last year’s runner up for Club of the Year, this club is run by Angela V. and Ramon T.
