Your 2025/2026 Board of Directors kicked off the summer with their annual retreat in Niagara Falls! Over three days, they trained in governance, leadership, and sustainability, focusing on how to make thoughtful, inclusive, and impactful decisions for students. Using CCSAI’s Strategic Plan as their guide, the team created a one-year action plan centered on equitable access, skill-building, and holistic wellness.

Logan Routhier, your current President, also represented you at the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA) Board Retreat in Ottawa. Together with student leaders from across the country, Logan helped set the direction for national student advocacy this year.

Attendees got to experience traditional dances, food, and art, while building allyship and celebrating Indigenous culture and resilience.

July – Advocacy, Action & Awareness
On July 9, Logan Routhier stood with OPSEU at a press conference outside the Story Arts Centre, speaking out against college layoffs and program suspensions. Our President voiced student concerns loud and clear, calling for transparency, equity, and reinvestment in Ontario’s colleges. Read more here.

Later in the month, the board headed west for CASA’s Policy & Strategy Conference in Calgary. CCSAI secured three national leadership roles (Membership Committee, College & Polytechnic Committee, and Secretary of EDI), helping shape advocacy priorities that will guide student voices federally.

Meanwhile, our Indigenous Student Representatives passed their official action plan at the July Board meeting, laying the groundwork for stronger support across campuses. And on the national stage, Mukwa proudly represented Centennial at CASA’s National Indigenous Advisory Committee, ensuring Indigenous voices continue to shape student advocacy in Canada.

August – Students Leading Change

Your VPs from Progress and Downsview joined the Ontario Student Voices Conference, where delegates from 12 student unions united to set the top provincial advocacy priority: fair college funding. The three-day event brought together student leaders from across the province to talk about issues that matter most to college students. They also began mobilizing against Bill 33, legislation that could put vital student services like food banks and advocacy work at risk.

Logan Routhier joined a panel with CASA to discuss new research on post-secondary education in Canada, highlighting affordability as the biggest barrier for students. August also marked the launch of two new student-led committees! The Policy Committee and the Governance Committee. Members received intensive training in leadership, policy writing, and governance, giving more students the chance to shape CCSAI’s future.

Finally, CCSAI was at Fall 2025 orientations across all campuses. With swag, games, and friendly faces from your Board of Directors, they welcomed new students and introduced them to all the ways CCSAI is here to support their college journey.

That was a busy summer! From shaping policy at every level to connecting with students on campus, your Board of Directors has been hard at work making sure your voice is heard.
