The Board Bulletin – November

Hello, CCSAI members. This is what November brought to your board of directors:

Taking Parliament Hill

Our federal advocacy delegates Luis Felipe Mussalém and Ajané Adams joined students across Canada to advocate for better conditions in post-secondary institutions. As a student association that represents over 35,000 of you, we are members of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations, and they hosted an advocacy week in Ottawa where many Members of Parliament work and allowed us to have meaningful conversations with them. Here are some things that we discussed:

  • The possibility of more funding for student-oriented housing units
  • The permanent lift of the 20-hour working limit for international students
  • More support for Indigenous students
  • More investment in mental health professionals on campus
  • Preserving educational fair dealing

Networking for a better future

Our Provincial Advocacy lead and Morningside campus vice-president Kamaljot Kaur joined many students in our Networking Night event. These gatherings are a wonderful opportunity to connect with you, learn about your perspectives, and of course, practice for the world out there. Networking is important across many industries, and we are happy to learn by your side and help you access the resources that will make you succeed once you graduate.

The inner light in us

Happy Diwali! Our president Ajané Adams attended our Festival of Lights event with many students from India and other places in the world. As we have a large southeast-Asian student body, we are more than happy to join the ones who celebrate Diwali and also encourage other students to learn more about other cultures. It was a wonderful night of dancing, and eating good food and for many, this was an opportunity to connect with their culture from back home.

What’s coming up?

Have a chat with your campus vice presidents and join us for a snack from December 11 to December 15, 2023.

  • December 12 – Progress Campus

  • December 14 – Downsview

Stay tuned to our Instagram page for some Christmas surprises!
