We are reaching out to provide an important update on the Eighth Fire office.
You may have heard about some recent staffing and structural changes. We want to assure you The Eighth Fire Team remains here to support Indigenous students, relatives, employees and community members.
You are welcome to visit us in person, Monday to Thursday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at Progress Campus, room A2-16, where a member of our team will be happy to welcome you. The [email protected]email address also remains active, if you need to reach our team directly. We monitor this email Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and someone on our team will be in touch.
Indigenous and allied faculty, staff and administrators will be available in the space. Here is a preview of what we have planned over the next two weeks:
- On March 26, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., Leigh Simpson and Elder Blu Waters will be residing in Auntie’s Kitchen and the Basket Room (A2-16). (We are deeply grateful to our peers from the First Peoples Centre at Seneca for their generosity in reaching out and offering support to our students this past week.)
- On April 1 and 2, Knowledge Keeper in Residence Liz Akiwenzie and Keesis Nadjiwon will also be present in the space to welcome you.
- We also have the Full Moon Feast coming up on April 1 at The Local. Seán Kinsella will be joining us for this community gathering. If you wish to attend, please contact Tanecia at [email protected] to register before March 25.
In addition to friendly faces, we will have food, and on Wednesdays, drumming.
If there is anything else we may be able to do to support you at this time, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We look forward to connecting with you soon if you are able to drop by the Eighth Fire office, and we will continue to share any important updates as they become available.
With respect and care,
The Eighth Fire Team
