Wellness Week

A Week Dedicated to Health & Wellness

Your overall health and wellness play a significant role in your success as a student. This week we’re encouraging all Centennial students, staff, faculty and community partners to be extra intentional about their health and wellbeing.

This week we’re offering a variety of activities to help you focus on positive health, physically, mentally, and emotionally. Also, use this time to reflect, relax, have fun and make connections.

The Semester’s Wellness Week theme is:

Connections + Relationships.

The past couple of years have reinforced the value and power of community and maintaining healthy relationships. The way we make and maintain connections is more different now than ever. Facing challenges, like timezone differences, choppy internet connections, physical barriers and the list can go on. We’ve also seen the power of unity, storytelling and community support and advocacy.

This week all our workshops and programs tie in elements of:

  • Community Building
  • Establishing Boundaries
  • Nurturing Healthy Relationships
  • Communication

Check out the upcoming Workshops, Events & At Home Wellness Resources that you can do at home with your family, friends, or peers.

At the age of 10, he was inspired to perform for a school play using dance moves he learned from music videos. In 2020 A.J. won two back to back 2 vs 2 Allstyle battle events as well as First place in an online Allstyles battle. During this time, A.J. joined the dance collective Blvckout Fam as well as producing music initially for the streetdance community. His music has reached street dancers throughout the globe as he continues to share dance and the culture behind it. In recent years, A.J. has connected his dance knowledge with mental health as he has worked with various daycares and child organizations teaching dance and mental health awareness

Art Therapy can help individuals externalize and organize their thoughts and feelings that may otherwise be difficult to articulate. The guided creative process, as well as the end product, can be used to enhance a person’s mental, emotional, spiritual, social, cognitive, and physical well-being.

Here is what you will need to participate at home:

  • Paper
  • Pen / Pencil
  • Coloured art materials

Taylor Bourassa,  (Registered Psychotherapist – qualifying)

Taylor Bourassa (she/her) integrates art, nature and typical talk therapies as a way to provide a more holistic approach. There are moments in life when words fall short of what we are feeling, or are unable to reach the depths of our understanding and expression. Taylor finds it helpful in these moments, to call on the expressive arts and nature to access the nuance in feeling and expression. Through art-creation and exploring your experiences through a nature-based lens, you may come to deeper insights that you can hold and reflect on. Taylor typically works with children, youth & adults, who are experiencing depression, anxiety, self-esteem or body image issues; and those who are seeking a deeper understanding of life’s big questions and their own spirituality

Journaling Prompts

Journaling and writing is a great way to reflect and unwind. You can use one, or some, or all of the following journal prompts to help you with self-reflection and help you practice more self-care in your day-to-day life.

  • If I could talk to my teenage self, the one thing I would say is…
  • The two moments I’ll never forget in my life are… Describe them in great detail, and what makes them so unforgettable.
  • Make a list of 30 things that make you smile.
  • When I’m in pain — physical or emotional — the kindest thing I can do for myself is…
  • Make a list of the people in your life who genuinely support you, and who you can genuinely trust. (Then make time to hang out with them.)
  • What’s one topic you need to learn more about to help you live a more fulfilling life? (Then learn about it.)
  • Write the words you need to hear.
