Centennial College has been faced with some unimaginable tragedies over the last few weeks. We have joined the community in mourning these losses and sharing in the sadness that such incidents bring and have offered our support in the healing process.
On December 22, a single-vehicle collision on Progress Avenue took the lives of two of our international students; Food and Beverage Management student Wei Jie Zhu-Li and Automation and Robotics Technician student Damir Kussain. It also seriously injured Wei Jie‘s older brother Jun Jie Zhu-Li.
We were shocked and deeply saddened by this tragedy and joined the College in offering our support, helping with arrangements and working to honour the memories of these bright and vibrant individuals lost to this senseless act.
We are working with their families and our community partners to set up memorial scholarships in their names. We hope to share more details shortly. If you have any suggestions or want to get involved please reach out to us at your local campus.
We also received the tragic news that a Centennial College faculty and his family were on board Ukraine International Airlines flight PS752 that crashed shortly after takeoff in Iran.
Dr. Razgar Rahimi had been a partial-load faculty in the School of Engineering Technology and Applied Science since Sept. 2018.
A moment of silence was held across Canadian campuses on Jan. 15 highlighting the impact this has had across education in Canada.
We join the academic community in mourning these profound losses and offer our deep condolences to the Rahimi family and all the victims of this disaster.
