Need a study break? Want an activity to look forward to after all the chaos and test-writing is over? Soak yourself in culture at the Art Gallery of Ontario’s new exhibits.

The AGO’s costly and controversial redesign by Torontonian Frank Ghery spanned almost a decade, and when the gallery finally opened its doors again, it had an extra 97,000 square feet of space, and thousands of new works to display. The new AGO was open by November of 2008 to eager members and Torontonians.

Since the reopening, the AGO has attracted exhibits by artists such as Rembrandt, Brian Jungen, General Idea, and most recently from Chagall and the Russian avant-garde. National Geographic has also brought King Tut and his array of treasures to the gallery. 

Soon the AGO will continue its mission to become an international cultural landmark when it plays host to over 150 highlights from the Musée National Picasso of Paris, May 1st – August 26th 2012. The AGO is the final stop on the exhibit’s world tour, which has visited cities such as Madrid, Abu Dhabi, and Moscow. The pieces will be displayed chronologically, and will represent every period of Picasso’s work.

The AGO also puts on lectures and classes that give a completely different and new gallery experience. Every Thursday between March 29–May 31 you can attend a yoga class in the main atrium, Walker Court. Click here for more information and registration.

Also in Walker Court, on April 15th, you can attend a free concert courtesy of the Glen Gould School with the price of admission between 1pm and 3pm. There are also many talks and lectures about art, exhibits and themes.
