Job title Personal Trainer (Part time)
Reports to Fitness Services Coordinator & AWC Manager
Pay Rate  $23.00 per personal training session (one hour session) $14.00 per hour for floor hours and administrative work

Job purpose

The Personal Trainer works with a team of professional staff that support the student leadership and goals of the organization. The Personal Trainer is responsible for ensuring each guest of the Athletic and Wellness Centre (AWC) has an exceptional experience by providing a high standard of service. The Personal Trainer takes a holistic approach to providing services to members and clients. The Personal Trainer generates revenue through the provision of professional fitness training and related services. The Personal Trainer has an interest in working in a dynamic, rapidly changing and busy environment.

This position requires the incumbent to work effectively and foster cooperative relationships with student leaders as part of a student focused organization.

Business Hours:

Monday to Friday 7 AM – 10 PM

Saturday to Sunday 10 AM – 5 PM

Duties and responsibilities

Specific duties and responsibilities shall include, but not be limited to the following:

Fitness Services

  • Provides professional services at all times to members in person, by telephone and/or email
  • Conducts ongoing comprehensive fitness assessments for personal training clients; evaluating their needs and monitor progress
  • Provides one-on-one personal training, group training and other specialty fitness services to AWC members
  • Generates maximum sales of fitness services and works with the Guest Services team in processing sales
  • Conducts consultations for prospective members and clients and makes appropriate recommendations
  • Ensures cleanliness of the fitness centre floor and reports to supervisor any equipment not in working order
  • Reinforces the AWC Member’s Expectation agreement at all times
  • Creates a positive relationship and working environment with all members and staff
  • Aids in ensuring all CCSAI facilities reflect a professional image

Administrative Duties

  • Must be available for a minimum of two assigned weekday, four hour shifts during peak business times as well as a minimum of one opening, one closing and one weekend day for availability
  • Assigned hours will vary based on the demand of services and business needs
  • Attend AWC monthly staff meetings and other required department meetings and training
  • Professionally manages all client files and ensures information is up to date and accurate
  • Other duties as assigned by the Fitness Services Coordinator and/or the Manager AWC



  • Degree or diploma in an exercise/ health science discipline such as fitness and kinesiology as well as at least 1 year of certified personal training experience with a nationally recognized personal trainer certification (CSEP-CPT designation is an asset).
  • Certification must be up to date and registered for the current year


  • 1-3 years of documented, certified personal training experience
  • Experience working in a high-profile fitness services environment is an asset
  • Experience implementing comprehensive fitness assessment protocols including body composition, aerobic and anaerobic fitness assessment and various musculoskeletal assessments
  • Experience instructing high intensity interval training (HIIT) classes is an asset
  • Experience instructing the sport of Olympic weightlifting, NCCP certification is an asset

Specialized Knowledge

  • Proficiency in the use of computers, email, office and related applications is a must
  • Using social media marketing for fitness services is considered an asset
  • CPR must be current
