 The AWC was filled with the sights and sounds of cultures from around the world on Sunday with the first annual Culturama. The event was hosted by Centennial College and the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culture. The festival included multicultural demonstrations, crafts, foods from around the world and live song and dance performances. The event represented a wide range of cultures and groups including Scouts Canada, the Guild Inn Theatre Group, Highland dancing from Bold Steps Dance Studio and the Latin Energy Dance Studio, among others.

Shyam Ranganathan, the Dean of the School of Hospitality, Tourism and Culture explained that Culturama will be a regular event to celebrate cultural diversity and engage with the communities surrounding Centennial College. "Culturama is not a one-off. It will become an opportunity for Scarborough, Markham and Durham to promote culture, heritage and tourism in Ontario."

Michael Chan, the Ontario Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sport, agreed saying the celebration will lead to exciting opportunities for the province. Chan explained that cultural diversity is one of Ontario greatest strengths and will help the province compete and win in the international tourism market.

Ranganathan and Chan were joined by Centennial College President Ann Buller and Marg Middleton, the General Manager of the Scarborough Mirror, in cutting the ribbon for the $3.5 million culinary lab expansion at the Centennial College Residence and Conference Centre.
